About
Built by a yacht delivery skipper.
reChain was born at sea, from a simple need: reliable, up-to-date weather when you're far from any network.
Where it started
I'm a professional skipper and I deliver sailing yachts. Always different boats, varying equipment, often offshore. Before reChain, I downloaded my GRIB files on the last bar of 4G before losing the coast. After that, no updates for days, and decisions made with stale weather.
The inReach paradox
Yet I had a remarkable satellite device on board: the Garmin inReach. Battery for days, reliable, able to send an SOS and share my position anywhere. But it only carries 160-character messages. No files, no weather chart.
The problem wasn't the satellite network. It was the format. So reChain turns a weather file into text messages, and the reChain Grib app rebuilds the file on the phone, offline.
What matters, and nothing more
The service then grew: an assistant connected to the internet for everyday questions, a tracking page for those who stay ashore, and messaging so they can write on board. Always with the same idea: let what matters through, without turning the boat into an office. Offshore, disconnecting is part of the journey too.
An independent service
reChain is developed and run by JCskipper, my yacht delivery business. It is not affiliated with Garmin. A question, an idea, feedback from a passage? Write to me at jclevenne@jcskipper.com.
